The Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago (GNC) is the central body for Ghanaian associations and individuals across Chicagoland. Our guiding spirit is Nkabom, the Akan word for unity.
Many of us came to this city to build something: a career, a home, a better road for our children. We chase the American dream with Ghana in our hands, and the council makes sure nobody chases it alone. Associations, families, elders, and young people share one table here. Through our programs, Ghanaian culture stays alive in Chicago, and our people gain the skills, opportunities, and standing to thrive.

For nearly 40 years, Chicago’s GhanaFest has stood as North America’s first and longest-running Ghanaian cultural exposition. What began as a modest community gathering has evolved into the premier destination for Ghanaian identity, drawing thousands from across the country each year.
More than a festival, GhanaFest is a vibrant living archive of heritage, pride, and community—uniting the diaspora to celebrate national culture in grand scale.
